Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made history by claiming the record for the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket. He achieved this milestone on Day 2 of the first 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test on Saturday, November 23, at Perth Stadium.
The record-breaking moment came on the fourth ball of the 52nd over of India’s second innings when Jaiswal stepped down the track and smashed a 100-meter six over long-on off Nathan Lyon, bringing his tally to 34 sixes in 2024.
This shot broke Brendon McCullum’s previous record of 33 sixes, which had stood unchallenged since 2014. You can watch the video here:

England’s Test captain Ben Stokes ranks third on the list with 26 sixes in 2022. Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist is fourth with 22 sixes in 2005, tied with Virender Sehwag, who achieved the same in 2008.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is having an outstanding year in Test cricket, amassing 1,208 runs in 23 innings at an average of 57.52, including two centuries and eight half-centuries.
Jaiswal and Rahul’s unbeaten 172-run stand puts India in control at Day 2 stumps
India’s bowlers delivered an exceptional performance after being bowled out for just 150 in their first innings, leaving Australia struggling at 67/7 by the end of Day 1. On the morning of Day 2, the hosts managed to add 37 more runs before Jasprit Bumrah completed a brilliant five-wicket haul.
Harshit Rana cleaned up the tail with two quick wickets, dismissing Australia for 104 and giving India a crucial 46-run lead. In their second innings, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul came out with intent, creating history by becoming the first Indian pair to put together a 100-run opening partnership in Australia since 2004.
By stumps on Day 2, the duo remained unbeaten, with Jaiswal on 90 and Rahul on 62, taking India to a commanding 172/0 and building a strong 218-run lead in the match.
