‘Yes, I Deserve This Price’ – Yuzvendra Chahal On His IPL 2025 Price Tag

Yuzvendra Chahal, one of the most expensive players in the IPL 2025 auction, was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore after being released by Rajasthan Royals. Given that he is not currently part of India’s national team in any format, some questioned whether the franchise overpaid for the leg-spinner.

Addressing these concerns, Chahal himself admitted that he initially questioned his worth but ultimately affirmed that he deserved the amount. Speaking about his reaction to the auction, he said he was too nervous to watch the beginning.

However, after reflecting on his skills and contributions, he reassured himself that his price tag was justified. “The auction is unpredictable. You don’t know which team will pick you or for how much. But when I asked myself, my inner voice said, ‘Yes, I deserve this price’,” Chahal said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Mastering the Art of Spin

Chahal also shed light on his growth as a bowler, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and adaptability. Over the years, he has honed four different variations—leg-spin, two types of googlies, and the flipper. He highlighted that success in T20 cricket is not just about the deliveries but also about understanding match situations and knowing when to attack or defend.

“The key is how you respond under pressure. At times, you need to focus on taking wickets, and at other times, it’s about controlling the flow of runs,” he explained. His tactical approach and experience make him a valuable asset despite concerns about his current standing in international cricket.

Toughest Batters to Bowl Against

When asked about the most challenging batters he has faced, Chahal named Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants. According to him, their immense power makes them difficult opponents, as even mishits often clear the boundary. “Both Klaasen and Pooran are dangerous. Their power ensures that even edges can go for sixes. I have been hit for sixes by them but have also bowled well against them,” he stated.

However, Chahal emphasized that he does not focus on a player’s reputation while bowling. “If you think about their name, it adds pressure. I have the ball, they have the bat. It’s a battle I aim to win. I’m not the tallest or the strongest, but my strength lies in my mind,” he concluded.
