Former India coach Anil Kumble recently called for two teams for red and white ball formats. He highlighted that England have followed this model for several years now and have reaped benefits from it.

India made it to the semi-finals of this edition of the T20 World Cup. They were hammered by England by 10 wickets in the semi-final. This defeat has raised several questions and criticisms about the Indian team and the BCCI.

India, who wanted to adopt a new attacking intent from the previous edition of the world cup, couldn’t go continue with this approach in this tournament and went back to their conservative process of starting slow.

The next edition of the T20 World Cup is in 2024, and many cricketing experts have suggested radical changes in the team if India wants to lift an ICC trophy again. Hardik Pandya is the front-running choice of several people to take the team forward in the shortest format of the game.

Anil Kumble recently stated that India also needs to increase their all-rounder’s depth, ultimately growing their batting depth.

“Definitely, you need separate teams. You need, certainly, T20 specialists. I think what this English team has shown and even the last (T20) World Cup champions Australia have shown is that you need to invest in a lot of allrounders. Look at the batting order.

No other team has a No. 7 of the quality of Livingstone – Anil Kumble

“Today Liam Livingstone is batting at No. 7. No other team has a No. 7 of the quality of Livingstone. (Marcus) Stoinis walks in at No. 6 (for Australia). That’s the kind of team you have to build. That’s something that you need to invest in,” Anil Kumble said.

For the upcoming series versus New Zealand, Hardik Pandya has been announced as the captain for the T20 format with Rishabh Pant named as his deputy.
