Yuvraj Singh Making Comeback Plans in Domestic Cricket

Yuvraj Singh, who announced his retirement in June last year, in all probability is going to make a comeback in domestic cricket for Punjab. In an exclusive chat to Cricbuzz, Yuvraj opened up on his comeback plans for the state team.

Yuvraj, who has been working with the youngsters like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh has found a new zeal and energy to make a comeback. He has been practising religiously at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Yuvraj Singh making comeback plans

As per the cricketer, it was during this interaction that he found the zest to play again and think of making a comeback.

“I enjoyed spending time with these youngsters, and talking to them about various aspects of the game, I realized that they were able to pick up various things that I was telling them,” Yuvraj, 38, told Cricbuzz on Wednesday afternoon, as he confirmed his comeback plans.

He also spoke about how Mr Puneet Bali, the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association, made him reconsider his comeback. The reason Bali asked Yuvraj to come back to the side was to use his experience in shaping up the young domestic squad of Punjab.

“Initially, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to take up the offer,” Yuvraj admits. “I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI. But I also couldn’t ignore Mr Bali’s request.”

Yuvraj further reasoned the motivating factor which made him reconsider his comeback. He said he wanted to groom youngsters and help them win major tournaments.

“The motivation is to help Punjab win championships. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), myself, we have won tournaments, but we haven’t done it together for Punjab, so that was a big factor in my final call,” he continued. 

The Indian southpaw further confirmed that he is only looking to play domestic T20 cricket for the moment. Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh will not feature in IPL 2020 after getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the BCCI  for participating in foreign T20 leagues. He played in the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 league.

“As things stand now, I will be playing only T20s if I get the nod,” Yuvraj observes. “But who knows, let’s see” Yuvraj signed off saying.
