Supreme Court’s decision to put a ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi and National capital Region (NCR) during the festival season of Diwali has created a new debate in the country. The decision was taken to put a check on the rising pollution levels in the city that has seen the levels of air pollution going up every year.
Many eminent personalities including cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag voiced their opinion in support of the ban. However, former India cricketer RP Singh opposed the apex court’s order and poised a question from his twitter handle whether he can use his old firecrackers.
The cricketer from Punjab posted a video from his social media accounts where he was heard talking about the problems he faced last year due to pollution and made a request to all his followers to celebrate this Diwali in a different way. He said, “Sincere request from my side to all of you this year… coming from the heart, don’t burst firecrackers this Diwali. The condition that our country landed in last year… the pollution, the air that we were breathing was devastating.”

“Jhappiya dalo (hug each other), have sweets, play cards… but please don’t burst crackers because they will damage us. (To see) young kids roaming around wearing masks, I feel very bad. I am sure you would have felt bad about it too,” the southpaw further added while suggesting some different ways to celebrate this festival.

However, to his surprise, Yuvraj received much criticism for his message as some people went far to accuse him of being anti-Hindu while others pointed out the example of animal slaughtering.

Few of them also advised him to plastic bats in order to save trees while others told him to stop using air-condition for his comfort. He was also advised by many people to stop using his cars and poised questions as what will happen to the firecracker industry.

Yuvraj, who is out of the national team for some time now will eye the ongoing Ranji Trophy to make a mark for himself and be on the good radar of the selectors.
