With the 2023 ODI World Cup approaching, the BCCI announced India’s squad for the tournament, captained by Rohit Sharma and featuring several star players. The absence of prominent spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has garnered significant attention.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh commented on Chahal’s exclusion, implying that there might be undisclosed interpersonal issues or comments that led to his omission, as there don’t seem to be clear reasons for it.
Chahal’s international ODI career includes 72 matches for India, where he claimed 121 wickets at an average of 27.13 and an economy rate of 5.27.
He played a pivotal role in India’s journey to the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup. However, his most recent ODI appearance for India dates back to January of this year when they faced New Zealand.
“He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone,” Harbhajan Singh said.
“Yuzvendra Chahal should have been here. He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone, I don’t know.”
“If we talk only about skill, his name should have been there in this team because a lot of Team India players are resting,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by OnManorama.
They have powerful hitters: Harbhajan Singh
Additionally, Harbhajan Singh discussed the upcoming three-match ODI series between India and Australia. He pointed out that Australia recently faced South Africa, while India is entering the series fresh from winning the Asia Cup.
Harbhajan emphasized that India should pay particular attention to Australia’s strong batting lineup due to their talented batters.
“Australia were playing against South Africa, and India were playing against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Australia is a different team.”
“You will have to be at your best to beat Australia because they have decent batting until No. 7 or No. 8 and they have solid hitters,” Harbhajan Singh said.
