RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a wicketless spell in the IPL 2021 opener against Mumbai Indians. Yet, it was a memorable match for the leggie in Banglore colors. Chahal, who is with the side since 2014 played his 100th IPL game on Friday. He played 99 games for the Virat Kohli-led side and has played one game for Mumbai Indians in 2013. The Bengaluru franchise essentially provided a platform for Chahal to express himself and he eventually went on to play for Team India.
Yuzvendra Chahal was also one of the most important members of RCB last year and helped them qualify for the playoffs. He had picked up 21 wickets in the 15 matches. However, the canny leg-spinner did not have a good outing in the match against MI. In his 4 overs, Chahal conceded 41 runs at an economy of 10.2.

This was the 200th T20 match for Chahal overall. Chahal had made his first-class debut at the age of 19. Chahal has picked up a total of 222 T20 wickets across all formats and is an indispensable part of the RCB team at the moment. He has taken 121 wickets for the side in 99 games and the season opener against Mumbai was his 99th for RCB.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Banglore won the first game that they played in IPL. They beat Mumbai by two wickets courtesy of AB De Villiers’ brilliance with the bat. Coming into bat after the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Dan Christian, De Villiers scored 48 off 27 balls and was run out in the final over of the game.
On the other hand, this was Mumbai’s ninth loss in IPL season openers over the years. The Men in Blue have now lost their 9th successive opening game in the IPL since 2013. Incidentally, Mumbai Indians won their first title that year and went onto add four more titles in the next seven seasons.
