ZIM vs IND: Avesh Khan Credits Shubman Gill For Healping Him Taking Extra Wickets

Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan has praised Shubman Gill, describing him as a “bowlers’ captain” who provides bowlers the necessary freedom while also devising his own strategies when needed. The fast bowler expressed gratitude to the Indian skipper for aiding him in securing a couple of wickets during the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe.

In the third T20I held in Harare on Wednesday, July 10, Gill top-scored with 66 runs off 49 balls, setting Zimbabwe a target of 183. Avesh contributed significantly by taking 2 wickets for 39 runs in his four overs, helping India restrict Zimbabwe to 159/6. This performance led to a 23-run victory for India, giving them a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Avesh Khan said: “Shubman Gill is a bowlers’ captain. He gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers. He gives them a chance to set their own fields. He always backs you if you are executing your plans.”

“If things go slightly awry and you get hit, he brings his own plan and tells you what needs to be done. That always helps a lot. He has contributed to me getting one or two wickets.”

In a post-match interview with Sony Sports, Avesh Khan shared his thoughts on Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Avesh, who has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 7.54 in the first three T20Is, noted that his best performance so far was a 3/15 haul in India’s 100-run victory in the second match.

He added: “Whenever I talk to the captain, I tell him that I have no preferences about when to bowl, that he can make me bowl anytime and I am always ready. I always bowl with the attitude to pick up wickets for the team.”

During the same interview, Avesh Khan was also asked about a spectacular catch taken by Ravi Bishnoi off his bowling. Bishnoi executed a perfect jump to catch Brian Bennett’s hard-cut ball at point, securing Avesh’s second wicket of the game. Earlier, Avesh had dismissed Wessly Madhevere with his first ball.
