10 Occasions When Streakers Invaded The Cricket Ground

Over the years we’ve seen streakers invade cricket matches almost everywhere in the world. These apparent streakers run around naked to disturb matches midway as we always see.

The running around of streakers is considered some sort of prank by them or some kind of dare. On numerous occasions, we’ve seen the cricket game hit by numerous streakers.

Let’s look at the top 10 occasions when streakers invaded the cricket ground:

2015 World Cup – England vs Scotland, (Christchurch, New Zealand

If you thought if a premium tournament like a world cup would be streaker free then your wrong. As the match between England and Scotland was interrupted as a streaker ran past the ground. The security officials chased him down after the marathon by the unknown streaker.

The World Cup didn’t see any speaker later on as the ground security was tightened after this incident. Later we saw how Australia went on to beat New Zealand in the final of the World Cup.

1996: England vs Pakistan at Lord’s Cricket Stadium

During the first test match between England and Pakistan at Lords in 1996, a female streaker interrupted the match midway which was also the first time a female streaker halted the match.

Players and umpires looked away as soon as they cause this happening on the field that too at the Mecca of Cricket. The guards were quick to react and were successfully able to catch the streaker on the field.

2005: Australia vs Pakistan at Sydney

Not all the time we see streakers running around the field, we also find some streakers who want to showcase some acrobatic skills on the field. A male streaker invaded the Test match between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney way back in 2005.

The streaker who was on a run showing off stunts was captured by security guards present at the ground. Ricky Ponting gave the streaker a disgusted look as he was carried off the playing area.

2005: England vs Australia At The Oval

The Fifth Ashes Test in 2005 at the Oval saw an interruption as a female streaker decided to crash into the playing area. This happened when the batsmen played a shot towards square leg, that’s when the streaker jumped in and started running all over the ground.

Security guards were in charge to stop the streaker as this didn’t last long as the streaker was caught and carried off the field soon after some valuable efforts by the guards.

2009: New Zealand vs Pakistan At Wellington

During the Test match between New Zealand and Pakistan at Wellington, New Zealand were chasing a target of 353 runs when a female streaker invaded the pitch and went towards Ross Taylor to grab his attention.

Taylor did his best in avoiding her as she was soon escorted out of the stadium. This incident upset the Pakistani players on the field and they were seen looking away when the streaker was on the field.

2007: England vs West Indies At Old Trafford

During the third test between England and West Indies, a male streaker interrupted the match. He did not just interrupt the gameplay but also went on to hug England pacer, Steve Harmison.

The English pacer was quite amused with what just happened with him.

 2008: England vs South Africa At Edgbaston

An acrobatic streaker invaded the pitch in the match between England and South Africa at Edgbaston in 2008. The streaker made some acrobatic moves on the pitch in the England batting innings. Jonathan Trot was batting when that instance happened and Hashim Amla can also be seen in the picture.

2005: New Zealand vs Australia At Christchurch, 2005

New Zealand is one country where you’ll find more female streakers than anywhere else. In 2005 during a Test Match, a streaker invaded the pitch as the game was stopped midway. Stephen Fleming was seen trying to stop the streaker as she headed his way.

The guards came running in on time and stopped the streaker from approaching any of the players and were soon escorted out of the ground.

2008: Australia vs India At Brisbane

During an ODI game between India and Australia in 2008 at Brisbane, Indian bowler Sreesanth had to pull out of his run as a streaker entered the ground and made a run towards Andrew Symonds.

Symonds wasn’t taking any of this nonsense as he shouldered the streaker and brought him onto ground eventually helping the security guards.

2016: New Zealand vs Australia At Christchurch

The Test match between New Zealand and Australia in 2016 was interrupted by a male streaker as he made a run all over the playing area. The play was halted for quite some time as the security were unable to catch the streaker.

After the efforts of more than 6 security guards were seen chasing the streaker down who was eventually caught near the boundary rope and was then escorted out of the ground.
