Indian cricketer Shubman Gill’s batting class was on display during the recently concluded three-match ODI against Zimbabwe. He registered his first International century in the series. The right-handed batter came close to the achievement a few times before, but couldn’t get to the three figures mark. He revealed an interesting incident when he spoke to former cricketer Yuvraj Singh about not getting hundreds.

In the third ODI against Zimbabwe on Monday at the Harare Sports Club, Shubman Gill slammed 130 off 97 balls with the help of 15 boundaries and one six. His knock powered India to a 13-run win to clean sweep the series 3-0. Gill’s knock earned praise from the experts and the fans on social media. Yuvraj Singh also took to Twitter to congratulate the youngster.

Speaking to Ishan Kishan in a video uploaded by the BCCI on Twitter, Shubman Gill revealed that Yuvraj Singh asked him to not worry about his maiden hundred. He stated,

“I just met him (Yuvraj) before coming to Zimbabwe and he just told me that you’re batting well and just go there and when you’re set, look to bat through. I was telling him ‘100 nahi aa raha’ (I’m not getting that hundred). And his reply was ‘don’t worry, it’ll come’.”

Happy that I made the most of the opportunity: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill became the third youngest Indian to score an ODI century abroad after Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli. He put on 140 runs for the third-wicket stand with Ishan Kishan, who also played a fine hand of 50 runs. Gill expressed that the wicket at the Harare Sports Club was good to bat on. He added that he was looking to make the most of the opportunity in the match.

It was a good wicket to bat on, I got your company, and luck was in my favor and it was important for me to make the most of the opportunity ad I am happy I did that,” Gill, who has adjudged the Player of the Match, said to Ishan Kishan during the chat.
