Shubman Gill gave his jersey to Zimbabwe pacer Brad Evans after the third ODI in Harare. Evans in the Post-Match Press Conference stated that Gill is the master of stealing singles. Evans further called himself a Shubman Gill fan, highlighting his heroics in the 2020-21 Australia Test Series and the IPL. Gill played a 91-run knock in the second innings of historic Gabba Test and, scored 483 runs at 132 Strike Rate in IPL 2022.

Evans said: “Yeah, for sure (Shubman Gill was one of the factors in deciding the series) Going into the series, I was one of his biggest fans, that’s why I got his shirt, and now I’m playing against him. He is a world-class player. Even from the first game, you could just tell… For example, when he gets a single, he hits it hard exactly where he intends to. That’s a skill, and it comes after years of practice. I just sometimes watch him in awe ‘this guy is so good.’ That’s a reason I’m a fan. I watched him on TV in the IPL and in Australia when they won that Test series. That’s a reason I’m a fan. To play against him was awesome.”

Evans added: “I was just walking back (after that match). I just gave him (Shubman Gill) my shirt. He took his shirt off and gave it to me. It was quite quick. I had actually asked him in the morning if we could change shirts, and he agreed. He’s a nice guy.”

Shubman Gill’s ton powers India to a clean sweep

Meanwhile in the 3rd match, Shubman Gill registered his Maiden ODI hundred. He smashed 130 runs off just 97 deliveries. His innings consisted of 15 fours and 1 maximum. Gill’s knock propelled India to a score of 289-8. Brad Evans picked 5 wickets conceding 54 runs in his 10-over spell.

For Zimbabwe, Sikandar Raza scored 115 runs off 85 balls to bring his side close to the target. However, Zimbabwe fell short by 13 runs. Shubman Gill was adjudged “Player of the Match” and “Player of the series”. Gill was the top run-scorer of the tour with 245 runs, averaging 122.5 at a strike-rate of 120.69.
