Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are assuredly the underachievers of IPL. Over the years they have had some of the biggest names of cricket but they still haven’t won the IPL trophy. The recently concluded IPL 2020 was a decent campaign for them as they finally qualified for the playoffs after 2016.

However, Virat Kohli’s RCB side still has some work to do and bring in some changes before the next season. In this feature, we try to predict who can be those 3 players in which RCB will be interested to obtain during the next auction. Mike Hesson and Simon Katich will be desiring to acquire these players to make RCB a more formidable unit that can help them finally win their maiden trophy.

3 players RCB should target ahead of IPL 2021:

3. Ben Cutting

Ben Cutting

Well no RCB fan has ever forgotten Ben Cutting after his heroics playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 final. The seasoned T20 all-rounder is the kind of player RCB lacks in their lower middle order. Cutting is a power hitter that can be destructive during the death overs and can also be a 5th bowling option which is always crucial for any captain.

Surprisingly Cutting remained unsold in the last auction for his base price which was Rs. 75 lakhs. The Australian has the expertise of playing T20 cricket in leagues all around the world. That is why his experience can be vital for RCB in the next season of the IPL.

The 33-year-old is always amongst the runs and wickets whenever he represents any side in T20 cricket. In his IPL he has a strike rate of touch 170 which is why he will be a perfect inclusion in the current RCB side who are a bit top-heavy.

2. Ishan Porel

Ishan Porel

RCB desperately needs an exciting young Indian fast bowler who can compliment Navdeep Saini at the death. Ishan Porel can certainly prove to be an asset for RCB in the long run. The speedster from Bengal was part of KXIP in IPL 2020 but did not feature even in a single match. It is highly likely the franchise will release Porel ahead of the next action which can be RCB’s gain.

The 22-year-old has been prominent in domestic cricket and U-19 for India. Porel is a wholehearted cricket and always looks to provide breakthroughs for his side whenever he has the ball in his hand. Also, much like Saini he too can crank it up and bowl at a rapid pace which will make him difficult to score against in the slog overs.

Bowling has always been the weakness of RCB and adding Porel in their setup will improve their bowling depth. Replacing Umesh Yadav will Ishan Porel will be perfect for RCB as the time has come that they start investing in young bowlers that will perform for them for a long time.

1. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell

The Australian Glenn Maxwell had a disappointing IPL 2020 with the bat. Maxwell struggled for runs and looked low on confidence. It is highly probable that KXIP will release Maxwell ahead of the next IPL auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore needs a game-changer like Maxwell who can provide Ab de Villiers with some assistance.

Maxwell might not be a Kohli who will consistently score runs but one thing is for sure that when he clicks he can single-handedly win a T20 match. Plus the pitch of Chinnaswamy will suit Maxwell’s aggressive style of play where he has already smashed a T20 century against India.

RCB middle-order consisting of Kohli, De Villiers and Maxwell will intimidate any bowling attack in the IPL. That is why Maxwell is one player that RCB should pay attention to during the next auction.
