The 2023 IPL auction was a grand success as many top Indian and international players were sold for whopping prices that took place in Kochi on 23 December 2022.
Franchises put their heart and sold to buy top quality players as many records were broken during the first half of the 2023 IPL auction performed brilliantly for their respective countries in international tournaments.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings had the most purchase and bought top-quality players to strengthen their teams.
Here we look at the 5 costliest buys of the IPL 2023 auction.
#1 Sam Curran

Sam Curran became the costliest buy ever in IPL history. He was bought by former franchise Punjab Kings for a whopping 18.50 Crore. The England all-rounder listed in the second set of all-rounders. Curran set a base price of Rs 2 Crore. Punjab Kings started the bid before Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians took CenterStage as the price reached 7 Crore.
Rajasthan Royals joined the bidding before RCB dropped from the race. Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians engaged in the bidding process. CSK, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants joined in before Punjab Kings went mad and purchased him for a whopping price. Curran was named the player of the tournament in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022.
The all-rounder grabbed 13 wickets in the tournament including 3 for 12 against Pakistan during the finals. It will add strength to the Punjab King’s side as they would be looking to perform brilliantly in the 2023 edition of IPL.
#2 Cameron Green
The explosive all-rounder from Australia, Cameron Green was bought by the Mumbai Indians franchise for a whopping 17.50 Crore. He was included in the 2nd list including all-rounders with a base price of 2 Crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians started the bidding process as the price shot to 7 Crore in a quick time.
Delhi Capitals also entered the fray as the price moved past Rs 10 Crore. Capitals and Mumbai Indians fought for the all-rounder going past 15 Crore. Mumbai Indians eventually bought Cameron Green. His performance in the T20I format for Australia has been decent enough.
During the tour of India, Green made his T20I debut. He produced two magical knocks against India in November 2022. The inclusion of Green will strengthen their batting and it will give an option of bowling that lacked in the 2022 IPL.

The England Test captain, Ben Stokes was bought by Chennai Super Kings for 16.25 Crore. He became the costliest-ever buy for CSK going past Deepak Chahar.
He entered the auction with a base price of 2 Crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore competed with Rajasthan Royals before Lucknow Super Giant showed interest at Rs 7 Crore. SRH made an attempt to buy him before Chennai Super Kings bought him for a whopping amount. He became the third joint highest costliest buys in IPL history.
Stokes played a key role in helping England win their second T20 World Cup title defeating Pakistan in close-fought affair. He could become a captaincy option as MS Dhoni will play his last IPL tournament.
The all-rounder played for Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Super Giants. During the 2017 auction, Stokes was bought for Rs 14.5 Crore.
Stokes has done well for Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL. CSK struggled badly in the 2022 IPL not qualifying for the playoffs stage. With the inclusion of Stokes, the Dhoni-led side could prosper again.
#4 Nicolas Pooran
The left-handed explosive batter from West Indies, Nicolas Pooran was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad before the retention and release list of players.
He set a base price of 2 Crore as CSK started the bid. The bid continued between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals going past 6 Crore. Lucknow Super Giants started the bidding process and the price crossed 10 Crore.
The fight continued pushing the price over 15 Crore. Nicolas Pooran was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 16 Crore. SRH bought Pooran for Rs 10.75 Crore during the 2022 auction. He did a decent job in IPL 2022 with 306 runs in 14 matches, but SRH looked out of sorts.
#5 Harry Brooks
The 23-year young batter from Harry Brooks was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad. He made an entry into the IPL auction with a base price of Rs 1.5 Crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals begin the bidding process initially before SRH joined.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals fought out as the price rose above 13 Crore. Rajasthan Royals dropped out as RR had only 13.2 Crore.
Brooks would be playing his first IPL tournament. His performance in international cricket has been explosive. He performed brilliantly in T20I and Test series on Pakistan soil. SRH bought the talented batter at a whopping 13.25 Crore.
