5 Highest Individual Scores In ODIs

When One Day Internationals started in 1971 scoring a century in 60 over format was considered a huge milestone, there were not many players who were able to score a hundred in limited over format at that time. Things evolved fast and 60 over was reduced to 50 over and now scoring a century in just a benchmark, not a milestone.

Because with Sachin Tendulkar scoring a double hundred in ODI the double century has become a milestone that every batsman wants to achieve. So far only 6 players have scored a double hundred in ODI and we have witnessed a total of 8 of them.

Out of which Rohit Sharma is the only player with 3 double hundreds in ODI. Let us take a look at the 5 highest individual scores in the 50-over format:


5. 210* | Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan) v/s Zimbabwe, Bulawayo (2018)

Another player on the list to smash Zimbabwean bowlers. Pakistani Fakhar Zaman scored an unbeaten double century against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo. Pakistan only lost 1 wicket in this match while scoring 399 runs that too at the score of 304

Fakhar Zaman scored 210 runs off 156 balls hitting 24 fours and 5 sixes and the strike rate was 134.61. Pakistan won the match very comfortably as Zimbabwe got all out at the score of just 155 runs.

4. 215 | Chris Gayle (West Indies) v/s Zimbabwe, Canberra (2015)

Another World Cup double century in the list, Universe boss scored an extraordinary double century against Zimbabwe in a World Cup Pool match and just like Rohit Sharma, he batted till the very last ball of the Innings.

Chris Gayle opened the innings with Dwayne Smith who got out on duck, which Gayle to be honest didn’t care about and he went directly towards Zimbabwe bowlers and started destroying them by scoring runs all over the ground.

He scored 215 runs off 147 balls including 10 fours and 16 sixes and with a Strike rate of 146.25.


3. 219 | Virender Sehwag (India) v/s West Indies, Indore (2011)

Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag went berserk against West Indies in 2011 and scored a double century. Sehwag was the captain in that match and his double century record is the highest individual runs scored by a captain in One Day Internationals. Sehwag at that time became a 2nd batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score a tremendous double century in ODIs.

Veteran Opener played a sensational knock of 219 off 149 balls including 25 fours and 7 sixes. His strike rate in that innings was brilliant at 146.97.

Sehwag helped the team to reach a score of 418 and India dominated that match and won it comfortably. Sehwag was awarded the match of the match award for his sensational knock.

India won that match bowling out West Indies at the score of 265 runs.

2. 237* | Martin Guptill (New Zealand) v/s West Indies, Wellington (2015)

Star Kiwi Opener Martin Guptill played a sensational knock in the World Cup against West Indies and became the first-ever New Zealand batsman to score a double century in ODI.

The pressure of a big game was unable to stop Guptill from scoring a double century. He demolished the West Indies bowling line-up by scoring unbeaten 237 runs off 163 balls including 24 fours and 11 sixes he batted with a strike rate of 145.39.

Martin Guptill’s knock helped Blackcaps to reach 393 and eventually win the match. New Zealand bowled out West Indies at the score of 250. Martin Guptill holds the record for highest runs scored in an ICC World Cup.


1. Rohit Sharma | 264 v/s Sri Lanka, Kolkata (2014)

November 13, 2014, Eden Gardens Kolkata, The world of cricket witnessed a storm named Rohit Sharma. Hitman was making his comeback in the team after an injury. Nobody knew what Rohit was up to.

Indian vice-captain opened the innings with Ajinkya Rahane and played till the last ball of the match. He scored unbelievable 264 runs off 173 balls which included 33 fours and 9 sixes and he batted with a strike rate of 152.60.

With the help of Rohit’s innings, India was able to reach the giant score of 404 runs and they won the match by 153 runs. Rohit Sharma himself defeated Sri Lanka by 13 runs as Sri Lanka scored only 251 runs.

Ro-hit man Sharma was able to register his name in record books by scoring the highest ever individual score in ODI, he also created the record of most boundaries ( fours + sixes ) in an ODI inning and most balls faced in 50over format.
