5 India Born Cricketers To Play For the USA

India

India is home to around 1.3 Billion people. While Cricket isn’t the country’s National Sport, a boundless number of children aspire to represent the country at the International Level. Only a few get the honor of wearing an India cap, the lakhs of other cricketers are left behind. While many spend their whole lives trying to achieve their dream, some decide to pursue their passion in other countries.

Over the years, there have been many India-born cricketers to play for different nations. In this article, we will take a look at five such India-born players who represented the United States of America:


1. Timil Patel

Timil Patel has represented India at the Under 19 level and has played first-class cricket for Gujarat before moving to the United States in 2010. He was born in Gujarat, India on December 1, 1983. Timil made his International debut for the U.S in 2012 against UAE and has quickly established himself as a consistent wicket-taking leg-spin bowler for the national team.

The leg-spinner was also announced captain of the USA for the K.A. Auty Cup tour to Canada, in 2013 and was the leading wicket-taker for the United States in the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three, with eleven dismissals in five matches.

2. Monank Patel

Monank Patel is a wicket-keeper batsman who made his International debut for the United States in 2019 against UAE. He was the leading run-scorer for the USA in the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, with 208 runs in six matches.

Monak was born on May 01, 1993, in Anand, Gujarat, and has represented the USA in 13 ODIs and has scored 287 runs at an average of 23.92.


3. Saurabh Netravalkar

Saurabh Netravalkar is originally from Mumbai, India. He was a part of the India U19 setup and has represented Mumbai at the domestic level. He was the leading wicket-taker in the Under-19 tri-nation tournament in South Africa, before the World Cup in New Zealand, with eight wickets.

Netravalkar was named in the United States squad for the Super50 Tournament in the West Indies in 2017-18 and his consistent performance has earned him the leadership role with the USA cricket team.

4. Jaskaran Malhotra

Jaskaran Malhotra is a wicket-keeper batsman. He was part of the India U19 Team and has represented Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket.

Jaskaran was born in Chandigarh, Punjab on November 04, 1989. He shifted to the United States to pursue professional cricket. His performance for the USA team earned him a contract with St. Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018.


5. Sunny Sohal

Sunny Sohal was born on 10 November 1987 in Mohali, Punjab. He has played for Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challenger Bangalore, and Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League. In 2018 he moved to America and joined the United States of America cricket team.

Sunny is a right-handed batsman and an occasional leg-spin bowler. He made his T20 International (T20I) debut for the United States against Bermuda on 22 August 2019. In July 2020, he was named in the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots squad for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League.
