5 Star Players Who Will Not Feature In IPL 2023

The 2023 IPL mini-auction is set to take place on 23 December 2022 in Kochi. A total of 405 players registered their names including 273 Indians and 132 overseas players. 19 overseas players including Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green have been slotted in the INR 2 crore bracket.

11 Players have been included in the auction list with INR 1.5 crore bracket. 20 Players including Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey will go under the hammer for a base price of INR 1 crore.

Apart from top-quality players taking part in the auction, many players will not feature in this year’s edition due to some reason or other. Here we look at the 5 players not featuring in IPL 2023.

#1 Kieron Pollard

Pollard made his IPL debut in 2010 for Mumbai Indians and featured for the same franchise till 2022. His best season came during the 2013 edition as he made 420 runs from 18 matches at a strike rate of 149.46 including 3 half-centuries, the best score of 66 not out. He had another brilliant season during the 2015 edition with 419 runs from 16 matches a strike rate of 163.67 with 2 half-centuries, and the best score of 70.

Pollard was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise that came runners-up in 2010. He played key roles in MI winning 5 IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Mumbai Indians struggled badly in the 2022 edition finishing last in the points table. Kieron Pollard could not produce the same magic with only 144 runs from 11 matches with the best score of 25. He looked out of sorts with his batting.

He will not feature as a player for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 edition but would the batting coach. Pollard featured in 189 IPL matches with 3412 runs at a strike rate of 147.32. He registered his best score of 87 not out against Chennai Super Kings during the first half 2021 edition played in India.


#2 Dwayne Bravo

Bravo made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2008 and featured till 2010. He then played for Chennai Super Kings from 2011 to 2015. After a 2-year ban from CSK, Bravo featured for Gujarat Lions from 2016-2017.

He returned to the CSK fold in 2018 and played till 2022. His best while batting came during the 2012 edition with 371 runs from 19 matches with a strike rate of 140.53 without any half-centuries, the best score of 48.

Bravo struggled badly in the 2022 edition with just 23 runs from 10 matches with the highest score of 23.

He is the leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 183 wickets from 161 matches at an economy of 8.38 runs per over, with best figures of 4 for 22. He still holds the record for most wickets in the IPL season.

Bravo achieved this feat during the 2013 edition of CSK. He took 32 wickets from 18 matches at an economy of 7.95 runs per over with 1 four-wicket haul. Bravo took the Purple Cap award twice in 2013 and 2015. During the 2015 edition, the West Indies legend grabbed 26 wickets from 16 matches.

He was a part of the winning team that won the IPL title in 2011, 2018, and 2021 and was runners-up in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019.

Bravo was bought by Chennai Super Kings for 4.40 Crore in the 2022 auction. He had a decent outing in the 2022 edition of IPL with 16 wickets from 10 matches at an economy rate of 8.71 runs per over with figures of 3/20. Chennai Super Kings could not qualify for the playoff stage in the 2022 edition.

After announcing his retirement from the Indian Premier League, Bravo has become the bowling coach of CSK for the 2023 edition.


#3 Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa will not feature in this year’s IPL edition as he has announced retirement. He made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009 and played till 2010. His next franchise was Pune Warriors India from 2011 to 2013.

He featured for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2019. Uthappa then featured for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition. He then featured for Chennai Super Kings from 2021-22.

Uthappa played a total of 205 matches in Indian Premier League history with 4952 runs including 27 half-centuries with the best score of 88 at a strike rate of 130.85.

Uthappa’s best season came during the 2014 edition where he made 660 runs from 16 matches including 5 half-centuries at a strike rate of 137.78. He followed this brilliant season with 364 runs in the 2015 edition, 394 runs in the 2016 edition, 388 in the 2017 edition, and 351 runs in the 2018 edition.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League. Despite not getting many games in the 2021 edition with only 4 matches scoring just 115 runs. He made his highest score of 63 as CSK won the title for the fourth time.


#4 Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was the most expensive buy in the IPL 2020 edition of IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for a whopping 15.50 Crore.

He played a key role in helping KKR reach the finals of the 2020 edition. Cummins picked 12 wickets from 14 matches with figures of 4 for 34 at an economy of 7.86 runs per over.

Cummins was bought for Rs 7.25 Crore by Kolkata Knight Riders. He played just 5 matches with the best score of 56 not out in quick time against Mumbai Indians. While bowling, he grabbed 7 wickets from 5 outings at an economy rate of 10.69. He left the IPL in 2022 due to a hip injury.

He will not feature in IPL 2023 due to a heavy international schedule. Australia is scheduled to play Test matches and ODIs, including the Ashes and 50 over World Cup in 2023.


#5 Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch is another player who will not feature in IPL 2023. He was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise after a disappointing 2022 tournament.

Finch has played for Rajasthan Royals in 2010, 2013 for Pune Warriors India, 2014 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2015 for Mumbai Indians, 2016-2017 for Gujarat Lions, 2018 Kings XI Punjab, and 2020 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He was bought for the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise for Rs 1.5 Crore in IPL 2022 auction. Finch played just 5 matches with only 86 runs with the best score of 58 against Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 140.98.

His performance was not up to the mark and has not been clubbed in any of those brackets due to his poor batting.
