Well, even MS Dhoni is allowed to lose his cool sometimes as after all he is also a human being.
In this feature, we look ahead at the top 5 most rare incidents when MS Dhoni has questioned the decision of the umpires on the field. Now, these incidents have made for a compelling view as they show how bad Dhoni still wants to be on the winning side.
5 Times MS Dhoni Went Against The Decision Of Umpires
5. CSK vs RR (IPL 2020)
This season is all about IPL 2020 in which we have witnessed cricket of the highest order. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been an ideal season for Chennai Super Kings as they struggled in the competition so far.
When CSK was facing Rajasthan Royals at Sharjah, Dhoni took a catch of Tom Curran which was signalled out on the field. However, when Curran was seen baffled with the decision umpire Shamsuddin had a polite enquiry with the short leg umpire.
The two after discussion went to the third umpire to check the catch which Dhoni claimed behind the stumps. Seeing this Dhoni was in the ears of the umpire in a flash and was probably asking the reason why they went upstairs with Royals having no reviews left.
The replays indicated that there was daylight between the bat and ball. On top of that, the catch Dhoni took also clearly bounced and touched the grass before settling into Dhoni’s glove. In the end, the right decision was made and the decision of out had to be overturned by Shamsuddin.
4. India vs South Africa (Indore 2015)
India was facing the might South Africa side in a crucial ODI at Indore. MS Dhoni-led from the front with the bat and took India to a competitive total. Interestingly during the run chase, Dhoni was seen appealing for a caught behind when Farhaan Behardien was the batsman.
The bowler Harbhajan Singh didn’t even appeal for a caught behind but Dhoni was certain that the ball made contact with the bat. Due to that Indian umpire, Vineet Kulkarni raised his finger and gave a horror decision. Behardien was irritated with the decision as his bat was nowhere near the ball.
Interestingly earlier during the T20 series, Kulkarni made a major blunder when he failed to give JP Duminy out LBW when the ball was crashing the middle of middle stump. India ultimately lost the match and a complaint was made by Dhoni against the poor umpiring of Kulkarni.
Well, Kulkarni was intimidated when he saw Dhoni appealing for a catch and without thinking signalled it out in the ODI series.

3. CSK vs RR (IPL 2019)
Now, this is a dispute which will never be forgotten in IPL history. An angry MS Dhoni with purpose walked out in the middle during a match due to an error made by the umpires.
The match was hanging in the balance as CSK needed 8 from 3 balls in the final over against Rajasthan Royals. Ben Stokes had taken the massive wicket of MS Dhoni and it seemed the Royals will win at their home ground.
Following that Stokes bowled a beamer to Mitchell Santner which looked above the waist. However square leg umpire Bruce Oxenford did not call it a no-ball. Things got interesting when the Indian umpire was seen giving it a no-ball but soon reversed his decision.
Then what happened is history, Dhoni was pestered and without caring about anything entered the field. The CSK skipper was seen pointing fingers at the two umpires as both of them made different decisions which confused everyone.
In the end, Bruce Oxenford did not change his decision and it was counted as a legitimate delivery. This revelation motivated the CSK batsmen on the field as they won a cliff-hanger against Rajasthan Royals.

2. India vs Australia (2013)
India and Australia were contesting a close ODI at Mohali. During the run chase Umpire, Shamsuddin signalled a wide which was down the leg side. Skipper Dhoni and Ashwin looked unhappy with the decision and were seen staring at the umpire.
Surprisingly after a few seconds, the umpire reversed his decision when he saw Dhoni standing his ground after the over was complete. Batsman Adam Voges was astonished by the call and even the replays suggested that it was indeed a wide and Australia were robbed off an extra delivery.
1. CSK vs SRH (IPL 2020)
This is the latest incident among the top 5, were Dhoni was seen investigating the decision of the umpires. The Chennai Super Kings were facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a close tussle at Dubai.
In the penultimate over when SRH required another 25 runs from 11 balls, Rashid Khan was on strike facing Shardul Thakur. The CSK fast bowler executed a yorker but it seemed a wide delivery. Soon after the ball, Australian umpire Paul Reiffel was originally seen giving it a wide but then behind the stumps, Dhoni was seen disputing the umpire’s call.
Reiffel soon modified his decision and it was included as a legal delivery. The SRH team was puzzled with his decision including their skipper David Warner who looked perplexed with the final decision made on the field. Eventually, CSK clinched the match, but this controversy grabbed all the limelight.
