The former Indian captain MS Dhoni is known for his cool and calm demeanour on the cricket field which led to him earning the title of ‘Captain cool’ during his career. However, there are few instances when MS Dhoni lost his cool. The cricketer from Jharkhand made his debut way back in 2004 and since then he has always stayed away from being aggressive and has always remained calm whether he is batting or behind the stumps.
The legendary cricketer very rarely is seen taking an aggressive route during a match and is often the calming influence over his side. He has always controlled his temper has rarely been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. This quality has always separated him from the rest which has helped him immensely under pressure situations in his legendary career. But has he ever lost his cool?

Here are five of the rare instances where MS Dhoni lost his cool during a match that surprised everyone:
1. India vs Bangladesh 2015
This happened just after the cricket ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 when India toured Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series. Mustafizur Rahman, who made his debut in that match was bowling brilliantly and had India in trouble. MS Dhoni, who as usual was trying to run quickly between the wickets and rotate strike collided with the Bangladeshi pacer who deliberately came in the way of Dhoni when he was attempting a second run.
Notably, the pacer earlier in the innings could have had the same tackle with Rohit Sharma but in the last moment stopped before crashing into each other. MS Dhoni saw that from the dressing room and when he came out in the middle, he did not take this lightly and strongly shoved Mustafizur in the middle.
Bangladesh ultimately won that match and both the players were fined by the match referee for their behaviour.
2. India vs South Africa (2018)
This is perhaps the most famous incident where MS Dhoni showed his emotion in India colours. The second T20I between India and South Africa at Supersport Park in Centurion saw Dhoni losing his cool on his batting partner Manish Pandey.
Incidentally, Dhoni and Pandey were batting together and had developed an important partnership for India. During the slog overs, Dhoni was getting ready to face the ball before a change in the field led to the former having a word with his partner who was at the non-striking end.
The wicket-keeper batsman wanted Manish Pandey’s attention who was apparently lost somewhere else which Dhoni did not take lightly. He was seen saying some harsh words which everyone could listen because of the stump mic. This incident led to a lot of memes getting made which became famous on social media.
3. Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals (2019)
This was an intense clash at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur and was heading towards an exciting finish. MS Dhoni was taking Chennai Super Kings home in yet another run chase but he was castled by Ben Stokes and the match was in the balance again.
Then something happened which no cricket fan will ever forget as the on-field umpire changed his decision after signalling a no-ball which surprised everyone. Dhoni was so animated that he made his way back to the middle to consult the umpire which shocked everyone. Umpire Ulhas Gandhi signalled a no-ball which could have been above the waist but immediately changed his decision.
The decision was in the end overturned by Bruce Oxenford and CSK ended up winning the match, but this match will always be remembered for MS Dhoni losing his cool on the umpires call.

4. CB Series in Australia (2012)
The 2012 Australia tour was a nightmare for team India and MS Dhoni as they were whitewashed in the Test series and were struggling in the ODI series which involved Sri Lanka and hosts Australia. India were up against the Aussies at Gabba in Brisbane, where MS Dhoni was involved in a heated altercation with New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden.
In the 29th over of the Australian innings, Hussey was stumped by Dhoni which was upstairs by the square-leg umpire. The third umpire signalled out on the big screen and Hussey was going back to the pavilion. Then, Billy Bowden called Mike Hussey back again to bat and told him that the third umpire had pressed the wrong button.
The entire Indian team along with MS Dhoni lost his cool to what has happened and the Indian captain immediately went to the umpires to ask why the decision had been reversed and was seen showing his anger openly.
5. India vs Australia (2019)
This was another match where MS Dhoni was seen showing aggression towards an Indian player during the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. India were chasing a big total. In the dying moments of the contest, Dhoni was struggling because of the heat at Adelaide.
Khaleel Ahmed came the middle with drinks and nearly walked on the pitch which did not amuse Dhoni. This could have helped the opposition bowlers and as a result, Dhoni was seen angry on Khaleel in front of everyone. Luckily India won the match and tied the series 1-1, with the former India skipper staying not out in yet another run chase.
