Like sportsmen, women athletes have also shone brighter and brighter in the past in their respective fields. They have achieved multiple titles and trophies from around the world and have become a role model for future generations.

1. Dinesh Karthik and Dipika Pallikal Karthik

India Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is wedded to Indian national squash player, Dipika Pallikal. The popular pair dated each other around two years and eventually got hitched in 2015. Both Dinesh and Dipika belongs from Tamil Nadu and married each other in Hindu and Christian wedding ceremonies in August 2015.

Dipika is a popular squash player that has famously represented India in major events. She won the gold medal in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 with Joshna Chinappa. Dipika and Dinesh continue to play their respective sports and continue to grow together despite having hectic schedules.

2. Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza 

Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza are probably the most famous couple in India and Pakistan. The two have made their respective countries proud in sports and continue to be trendsetters. Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik married India’s tennis superstar Sania Mirza in 2010. 

Sania has won several grand slams title and is one of the most respected female tennis players in the WTA circuit. On the other hand, the seasoned Shoaib Malik has played international cricket for Pakistan for close to 20 years. When the two decided to marry each other after dating for one year many created controversy with fake claims. 

However, both Shoaib and Sania stood by each other like a rock and became life partners. They are now living a happy life and balancing their sporting career with full precision. Shoaib and Sania had their first baby boy, named Izhaan Mirza Malik, back in 2018.

3. David Warner and Candice Warner

Mr and Mrs Warner never missed an opportunity to entertain their fans during lockdown which made them a very lovable couple. Not many are aware that Candice Warner also happens to be an athlete. Before marrying David Warner in 2015, she used to be a professional competitor in the Ironman series: a water-sport based surfing event in Australia.

Interestingly Candice made her debut in water sports events aged just 14. Since then Candice has excelled in her sport and won several awards. Mrs Warner is now a popular face on Australian television after her appearance in shows like Takes Two, Hell’s Kitchen, Australian Story, and SAS: Who Dares to Win?. 

David Warner has always maintained that his wife is his biggest support system who helped him recover after he was banned for 1 year. The two are now blessed with 3 daughters with whom both Candice and Warner post photos on Instagram for all their devotees.

4. Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee 

Team India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is married to Bengali NRI-Australian wife Ayesha. The two first interacted each other on Facebook in 2009 through their mutual friend, Harbhajan Singh. The two instantly bonded with each other as they shared the same kind of interests. 

Shikhar and Ayesha then fell in love and after keeping their relationship under wraps for quite some time decided to marry each other in a traditional Sikh wedding. The couple is huge fitness enthusiasts and is often seen together sweating it out in the gym and inspiring their followers on social media. 

Ayesha is a trained kick-boxer and is very passionate about her gym schedules. Even Shikhar has admitted that his wife has helped him with his training which is why he is now more fitter and athletic.

5. Ishant Sharma and Pratima Singh  

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma found the perfect match for himself when he met basketball player Pratima Singh. The two met each other for the very time in 2011 Delhi IGMA Basketball League when Ishant was invited as a chief guest. Ishant’s sister introduced him to Pratima who was taking part in the basketball league. 

The two liked their interaction and became good friends. After some time Ishant and Pratima started seeing each other and after a year tied the knot in 2016. Pratima who hails from Varanasi started her basketball journey with the Delhi University’s (DU) Jesus and Mary’s college. She even led DU to two successive gold medal campaigns in the All-India Inter-University league in 2010-11.

Pratima is her career has represented the Indian national team in 3 Asian Basketball Championships (2006, 07, 09) and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. The couple has now completed 4 years of marriage together and is often seen expressing their love for each other on social media.

6.  Robin Uthappa and Sheethal Goutham

Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa is happily married to his wife Sheethal. Since 2008, the two have stuck by each other and been each other’s biggest support during challenging times. Robin’s wife helped the cricketer to overcome his phase of depression when he was dropped from the Indian side. 

Sheetal who happens to be a fitness enthusiast also introduced Robin to weight lifting which has now helped him to get into the best shape of his life. Mrs Uthappa also helped Robin overcome an eating disorder and convinced him to see a nutritionist. 

The experienced cricketer now continues to play domestic cricket and IPL and still dreams about playing for India again. Outside of being a supportive wife Sheetal herself has had a successful sports career. She tennis from a very young age and even represented the national team in some youth tournaments. 

Robin and Sheethal after dating for many years got married in 2016 and are now blessed with their 3-year-old son named Neale.
