ENG vs IND 2021: Virat Kohli Will Surely Break His Century Drought, Says Dilip Vengsarkar

Virat Kohli century drought

Former Indian skipper and selector Dilip Vengsarkar has said that Virat Kohli will surely bring an end to his century drought sooner or later. He said that he is expecting Kohli to hit a century in the ongoing Test series against England. Kohli hit his last international century back in 2019. Kohli also did not have the best of starts to his England tour getting out on a first-ball duck.

Virat Kohli was dismissed identically by James Anderson like the way he dismissed him in 2014. He made Koli play to a delivery just leaving him outside the off-stump. Like 2014, Kohli edged one straight to the keeper. Meanwhile, this is the first time the veteran England pacer got rid of Kohli after the 2014 tour.

Former Indian batting legend Dilip Vengsarkar has opined that Virat Kohli will definitely break his century drought in the Tests against England.

Virat Kohli Will End His Century Drought In England: Dilip Vengsarkar

“I’m sure he will be able to break his century drought, because at the end of the day, he is a fabulous player. He and Rohit are probably the best India has got and I hope they come into their own and score a lot of runs. But at the same time, I would like others also to chip in, that’s important, because we can’t only depend on just two batsmen. Others need to contribute as well,” said Vengsarkar as quoted by The Hindustan Times.

Speaking about the importance of Kohli, Vengsarkar also highlighted the importance of the other batsmen to chip in wit crucial runs as well. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane have prior experience of playing in England and needs to come up with runs to help Kohli win the much-awaited series in England.

The former Indian selector threw his weight behind Rahul Dravid’s words of this being the best chance for India to win a Test series in England. It was under Dravid’s captaincy that India last won a Test series in England back in 2007.

“I agree with [Rahul] Dravid. India has a very good chance because this is the first-time, we are travelling to England with such world-class bowlers. Guys like Shami, Bumrah, Siraj and Ishant are top class. I think this indeed is India’s best chance,” concluded Vengsarkar.
