Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid stated that he has not thought about taking over as India’s full-time head coach. He traveled as a Head coach with the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian limited-overs team to Sri Lanka as Ravi Shastri, India’s regular head coach is in England for the Test series.

Ravi Shastri’s tenure comes to an end after the T20 World Cup later this year in the UAE. Dravid is being looked at as a prospect to take up the role. In the past, he has worked with India’s U19 and A teams.  Dravid is also the director at the National Cricket Academy. However, the former India cricketer isn’t thinking too far at the moment.

Addressing the media after the third T20I against Sri Lanka, Rahul Dravid admitted that he has “not given any other thought but this tour”.

“I have enjoyed this experience but I have not thought of anything far ahead. I have been doing what I am doing. I have not given any other thought but this tour and getting through the tour. I have enjoyed the experience of working with these guys, it has been great. I have not given any other thoughts to anything else. There are a lot of challenges in doing full-time roles, so I really don’t know,” said Dravid as quoted by the Sportstar.

It was quite challenging after the first game: Rahul Dravid

The Indian team was forced to play a depleted attack against Sri Lanka in the last two T20Is. Nine Indian players, including Krunal Pandya who had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, were unavailable for selection due to covid protocols. Head coach Rahul Dravid believes that though it was challenging, it served as an opportunity for the youngsters. He said:

“It was quite challenging after the first game, but I thought there are a lot of opportunities and learnings from games like these for the youngsters. It gives them an exposure to international cricket.”

“The great positive for me is the way guys have fought,” Dravid concluded.
