Moreover, the future of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 scheduled later this year in also in jeopardy but Australia skipper Aaron Finch is keen to play the tournament behind closed doors.

In the wake of the outbreak, Australia have sealed their border for at least six months in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly virus. As a result, the T20 World Cup slated to commence from October 18 hangs by the wire. As the International Cricket Council (ICC) convene this evening to discuss how world cricket can negotiate a new schedule, the global T20 event will be on top of their agenda.

Australia’s limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch is preparing himself for the tournament at least to take place at some point later.  He also said “creative” solutions will be needed in a revamped international schedule, including playing in front of empty stadiums.

“I think we might have to get our heads around a T20 World Cup that might be postponed for a month, two months, three months, whatever it has to be,” Finch told SEN Radio.

“But as long as we can get live sport up and running. Whether that’s with crowds or not, I don’t think that makes any difference to the players. I think we might have to get a little bit creative with how we do that (as part of a new-look schedule). Whether that’s setting up and playing two Test matches in one hub or something like that,” he added.

Meanwhile, recently, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has proposed a unique idea to go on with both IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup. The cricketer-turned commentator opined that India can host this year’s T20 World Cup while Australia can take up the rights of 2021 editions which was originally scheduled to host by India. However, the upcoming few days will be extremely crucial to understand what the future course of action will be.
