“Absolutely Ridiculous That People Would Use His Name” – Rohan Gavaskar Exposes A Fake Statement Linked To His Father, Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has denounced a false statement falsely linked to his father, Sunil Gavaskar, regarding the BCCI’s involvement in planning the Asia Cup 2023 schedule. After the India vs. Pakistan Group A match in Pallekele, Sri Lanka, was canceled due to rain on September 2, a deceptive statement purportedly from Sunil Gavaskar spread widely on social media.

“It should be a matter of utter shame for us as Indians for politicizing, ruining and basically hijacking this beautiful game of cricket. BCCI has let India down and tonight’s results are a testimony of it,” a Twitter user quoted the statement attributed to Sunil Gavaskar by NDTV.

On Twitter, Rohan ridiculed the supposed statement, asserting that his father never made any such remark. The 47-year-old stated:

“This is a completely fabricated statement attributed to my father . He hasn’t made this statement and someone is just trying to create mischief . It’s absolutely ridiculous that people would use his name to get more engagement. Please retweet so that the truth prevails.”

The BCCI faced criticism on social media for altering the Asia Cup 2023 schedule. The strong objection from the Indian cricket board regarding matches being played in Pakistan led the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to relocate their games to Sri Lanka.

India and Pakistan ended up with equal points due to rain disrupting the match

The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match at the Asia Cup 2023 was reduced to a single innings due to persistent rain in Kandy, preventing Pakistan from pursuing the 267-run target. With an outstanding performance from their pace attack, Pakistan dismissed India for 266 runs in 48.5 overs. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi (4/35) was particularly troublesome for the Indian batting lineup.

Afridi received valuable assistance from fellow pacers Haris Rauf (3/58) and Naseem Shah (3/36), resulting in Pakistan’s pacers taking all 10 wickets against India for only the second time since 2004. The match ended in a draw, with both India and Pakistan earning one point each.

As a result of this outcome, Pakistan advanced to the Super Four stage, while India is set to face Nepal on Monday in a crucial match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, which essentially serves as an eliminator.
