Ace England all-rounder Ben Stokes has shared that he won’t be taking part in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). However, he took an extended break from the game in 2021 to cure his injury and mental health. And, now he has decided not to enter his name into this year’s IPL mega auction as well.
He, however, can take rest after the end of England’s tour to the Caribbean at the end of March and before their home series against New Zealand which beings at the start of June. He could probably play in a couple of games for Durham prior to that series as well.
However, Ben Stokes, who was the IPL’s MVP in 2017, is the second player of the England Test team to decide not to give his name this year’s IPL auction after Joe Root. While Joe Root, was unlikely to attract a huge amount of interest, Stokes could have earned a lot of interest as well. Notably, Rajasthan Royals bought him for around £1.4m in 2018.

However, Root has said that he had decided not to enter the auction as he wanted to throw all his energy into leading the Test team, adding: “I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country”.
Among England players, only Moeen Ali (who has retired from Tests) and Jos Buttler have been retained by their respective franchises, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan respectively as well.
