Team India is likely to get a new apparel sponsor, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is close to signing a deal with Adidas. The deal is set to begin in June 2023. It will be a five-year deal lasting till March 2028, as per a report in News18. Currently, Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited, which is the parent brand of the company of Killer Jeans is the apparel sponsor.
Killer Jeans came on board for Team India after MPL Sports transferred their rights to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited. MPL’s deal was from November 2020 to December 2023, however, they pulled out of the sponsorship deal early. MPL was supposed to pay INR 65 lakh per match and INR 3 crore per year to the BCCI as a merchandise partner. However, the e-gaming platform, withdrew, forcing a makeshift deal with Killer Jeans.
Before MPL, the BCCI had a five-year deal of INR 370 cr with Nike from 2016 to 2020. After Nike in 2016, another big brand, Adidas is all set to be the Team India apparel sponsor. “The fine-print of the contract is being worked out. But the valuation is set to go up,” a BCCI official confirmed as stated by the Hindustan Times.
Breaking now…#BCCI is getting Adidas on board as apparel (kit) sponsor for Team India.
It's a huge shot in the arm for Indian cricket. It puts the proverbial "chip back on the shoulder".
Announcement will be made next month.#Cricketnext is ready with the story.
