Ankit Rajpoot Announces Retirement From Indian Cricket At The Age Of 31

Uttar Pradesh pacer Ankit Rajpoot has announced his retirement from Indian cricket at 31. The tall fast bowler, who featured for several IPL franchises during his career, revealed plans to explore other opportunities in the cricketing world.

Rajpoot debuted in first-class cricket during the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season for Uttar Pradesh and amassed 248 wickets in red-ball cricket. Although uncapped at the international level, he was signed by Chennai Super Kings for the 2013 IPL season and later played for teams like Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Most recently, he was part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad but didn’t feature in any matches. In the IPL, Rajpoot took 24 wickets in 29 games, including a five-wicket haul. However, he hasn’t played in the league since 2020 and went unsold in the recent auction. Earlier this season, he played two Ranji Trophy matches but went wicketless in both.

”I am grateful for the opportunities given to me by the Board of Control for India, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Kanpur Cricket Association, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings 11, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants.”

“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket & the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in a new and different environment.”

”I believe that this is the next step in my journey as a Cricketer and I look forward to this new chapter in my life. I wish the best of luck to all the teammates from the various teams I’ve been a part of.”
