Ashes 2023: England Head Coach Brendon McCullum Refused Entry In Headingley

England Head Coach Brendon McCullum was reportedly refused entry to Headingley, Leeds on Thursday, July 6 before the opening day of the third Test of the 2023 Ashes series. He was involved in a short stand-off with the security, as he was denied entry into the Headingley stadium for the third Test.

According to the Times, Brendon McCullum didn’t have the correct pass to enter the stadium. The security did not recognise the England head coach. A person accompanying McCullum spoke to the security guard about the significance of the coach’s presence in the dressing room. However, security insisted on showing the pass to enter Headingley for the game. The guard later connected to a superior for advice to allow entry. Frustrated with the incident, Brendon McCullum walked through the gates, saying,

“You’ll just have to deal with it.”

Brendon McCullum has played 101 Tests, 260 ODIs and 71 T20Is,  scoring 14676 runs, including 19 centuries and 76 half-centuries. He led the New Zealand team to the 2015 World Cup final. The left-hander has played three Test matches at the Headingley in Leeds. He was appointed as the England team’s head coach for Test cricket in 2022.
