Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh’s family was overjoyed with the all-rounder’s terrific performance in the third test of the 2023 Ashes against England on Thursday, July 6 at Headingley, Leeds. Mitchell slammed a scintillating century as he rescued Australia after a top-order collapse in the first innings of the Test.

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. The visitors were in trouble having lost four wickets for 85 runs. The openers David Warner, Usman Khawaja along with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were back in the hut. Mitchell Marsh stood tall in the innings, and put together a great partnership with Travis Head.

The duo together added 155 runs for the fifth-wicket stand. Mitchell Marsh slammed seventeen boundaries and four sixes to bring Australia back into the game. He was dismissed for a run-a-ball 118-run knock by Chris Woakes. Australia managed 263 runs in the innings, on the back of Marsh’s knock. Following the all-rounder’s century, his brother Shaun Marsh shared a video of the Marsh family celebrating the achievement.

I’m still lost for words: Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh slammed his third Test century in the first innings of the Leeds test. He has scored 1378 runs in 33 Tests, at an average of 27.02. Reflecting on his performance in the third test of the 2023 Ashes series, Mitchell Marsh expressed that he is lost for words. He added that he had worked hard to control his nerves in the game. The Australian cricketer said,

“It was pretty amazing, I’m still lost for words. In the past, my nerves have really got the better of me and I’ve worked really hard to control them. I think it’s the first time I’ve been dropped in Test cricket and you always need some luck, it was my day.”
