Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid is all set to join the squad ahead of the high-octane Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan. The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on Pakistan to kick off their campaign in the tournament on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Dravid had tested positive for the covid-19 virus in a routine test before the Indian team’s departure to Dubai.

Following his covid-19 positive result, the former cricketer had to miss the flight and stay back in India. He had mild symptoms and was under the supervision of the medical team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah released a statement after Dravid’s covid-19 test result. He stated,

“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report.”

According to a report in The Indian Express, Rahul Dravid has now fully recovered from the virus. His test report came negative on August 27. Dravid is all set to join the Indian team for the Pakistan match.

“Rahul’s test results have come negative and he is fit to fly,” a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.

VVS Laxman to fly back to India after Rahul Dravid’s arrival

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman was deputed as the interim head coach after Rahul Dravid tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Laxman joined the Indian squad in Dubai a few days back along with several other Indian cricketers from Harare, Zimbabwe.

“Mr. Laxman has linked up with the squad in Dubai along with vice-captain Mr. KL Rahul, Mr. Deepak Hooda, and Mr. Avesh Khan, who traveled from Harare,” the BCCI had said on Laxman’s arrival in Dubai.

VVS Laxman assisted the Indian team in their practice session in Dubai ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 tournament. However, with Rahul Dravid back, VVS Laxman will head back to India. He will not be a part of India’s campaign in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament, starting on Sunday.
