Bangladesh cricket team has been dealt a blow as fast bowler Ebadot Hossain won’t be able to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup due to a knee injury. During the recent ODI series against Afghanistan, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Medium pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been selected to fill in for Ebadot. Ebadot, who played a vital role in Bangladesh’s tournament plans, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the recent ODI series against Afghanistan. Afterwards, he underwent a six-week recovery regimen. Yet, several MRIs performed during this time unveiled that his ACL remains problematic, requiring additional treatment.
Ebadot has played an important role for Bangladesh so far
“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup,” ICC quoted BCB’s Chief Sports Physician, Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, as saying.
As the ICC World Cup approaches, officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are giving top priority to Ebadot’s overall well-being. They have affirmed their dedication to considering all secure medical choices, which might involve seeking advice and treatment abroad.
“Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” Chowdhury added.
Meanwhile, Tanzim, the player chosen to replace Ebadot, has secured 57 wickets in 37 List A matches and 22 wickets in 12 First-class matches. Known for his precision and swing, this medium pacer is enthusiastic about seizing this opportunity to contribute to his team’s improved performance in the competition.
Shakib Al Hasan has been entrusted with the captaincy role for the Asia Cup, assuming the position from the injured Tamim Iqbal. Tamim, who has been contending with a back injury, is displaying positive signs of improvement, with recent reports indicating his resumption of batting practice in the nets as part of his recovery progress.
