Asia Cup 2023 Qualification Scenario: How Can Pakistan Or Sri Lanka Qualify For Final Against India?

The joint hosts of the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be up against each other in Match 5 of the Super Four stages on Thursday, September 14 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This will be a do-or-die clash for both teams, who are coming on the back of losses in their previous match.

Sri Lanka is placed second on the table with two points from as many games. They defeated Bangladesh but lost to India in the last match. Pakistan too has had a similar journey defeating Bangladesh but losing to India. However, due to their inferior NRR, they are third on the table. Both teams will be battling for a spot in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament, while India has already qualified for the summit clash with two wins.

Qualification scenario for Pakistan and Sri Lanka for Asia Cup 2023 final:

Bangladesh has already been knocked out of the race to reach the final of the 2023 Asia Cup. They have lost both their matches so far in the Super Four stage, and their final match against India will be a dead rubber. Meanwhile, the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match is going to be an exciting do-or-die game. The winner of the match will qualify directly for the final against India.

It is a simple equation for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka who have two points in their kitty currently to win their final match of the Super 4 stages. It will take the winning team to four points. However, the rain threat is looming over the exciting clash. There is a 90 per cent chance of rain playing spoilsport during the game. In case the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match ends without a result, Sri Lanka will qualify for the final on the basis of a better NRR.
