Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma Reflects On The Tough Challenge India Faced Against Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance in the Super Four clash at the Asia Cup 2023, which took place on a challenging Colombo pitch on Tuesday. The Men in Blue faced difficulties against the co-hosts throughout the match. Despite a strong 80-run opening partnership between Rohit Sharma (scoring 53) and Shubman Gill (adding 19), they were eventually bowled out for 213 runs.

Dunith Wellalage was the standout performer, taking five wickets, while Charith Asalanka, a part-time off-spinner, claimed four wickets. Sri Lanka initially looked to be in control of the chase, thanks to Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva’s significant partnership. However, India managed to make a comeback and secured a crucial 41-run victory, securing their place in the Asia Cup 2023 final.

During the post-match presentation, Rohit emphasized the team’s desire to play more matches on challenging pitches.

He said: “Was a good game,” Rohit Sharma said. “For us also to play a game like that on a challenging pitch. We got challenged, and it was good. It was a challenging pitch, and we want to play more on these kinds of surfaces”

The captain of the Indian team also praised his bowlers, commending their strong performance in protecting the target.

He further said: “Was not an easy target to defend, as the pitch got easier at the end, and we had to put it consistently in one area, and, I think, we did quite well,”

Kuldeep Yadav secured four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja each took two. Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya contributed the remaining two wickets to complete an impressive bowling display. Rohit Sharma commended Kuldeep Yadav’s exceptional performance in the Asia Cup 2023, highlighting his hard work on improving his rhythm.

The premier spinner for Team India had a remarkable campaign, including a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in the previous match and four wickets against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Sharma praised Yadav’s dedication to enhancing his bowling skills, which is evident in his recent achievements.

He remarked: “For the past year or so bowling really really well, He has done a lot of hard work on his rhythm. He went back to the drawing board and worked on it. The ball is coming out nicely and you can see the results in the last 10 ODIs.”
