Sri Lanka vs India

Team India will face in their second Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka to be played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 12th September 2023. Rohit Sharma and Co registered a thumping 228 runs victory over arch-rivals Pakistan during the reserve day played yesterday.

India will be high on confidence after their massive win over Pakistan. The biggest challenge for Rohit Sharma and Co is to play three successive days. India and Sri Lanka have played 19 Asia Cup matches with Sri Lanka having a slight advantage with 10 wins as compared to 9 by India.

Both teams have quality batting lineups that can make use of the batting conditions in Colombo and help their country to post big totals.

Here we look at the 3 Probable Run-getters:

  1. Shubman Gill

The Indian opener Shubman Gill looked in sublime touch right from the word go against Pakistan putting enough pressure on Shaheen Shah Afridi with his attacking mindset. He made the batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking and hitting boundaries at will.

Gill completed his fifty off just 37 deliveries and never allowed the Pakistan bowlers to settle. He was eventually dismissed with a slower delivery by Shaheen Shah Afridi for 56. His knock along with Rohit Sharma laid a strong foundation for a big total. It will be another huge chance for Shubman Gill to provide a flying start and help Team India post a decent total on a good batting pitch at Colombo.

  1. Sadeera Samarawickrama

Sadeera Samarawickrama played a superb knock in the previous match against Bangladesh. He came to the crease with Sri Lanka struggling. The right-handed batter looked in decent touch taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries against disciplined Bangladesh bowling.

After completing his half-century, Samarawickrama upped the ante with some lovely shots keeping the pressure on the Bangladesh bowlers. He was eventually dismissed for 93 helping Sri Lanka to post 257 for 9.

It was a superb knock by Sadeera keeping his cool under pressure and helping Sri Lanka to post a decent total. He will play a huge role in today’s encounter against the top-quality bowling lineup of India. If the top order fails to contribute, Sadeera needs to play another important knock to help Sri Lanka put some pressure on the Indian team.

  1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul made a strong comeback after a long injury layoff. He looked cautious on the first day before launching an assault on Pakistan bowlers hitting them to all parts of the ground.

He showed intent against the spinners and made life tough for Pakistan captain Babar Azam. It was a remarkable innings as he completed his century off 100 deliveries. His knock of 111 not out ensured that India posted 356 for 2 in 50 overs. During this knock, KL Rahul showed his class and hammered the Pak bowling.

He would be eager to continue his superb form in today’s encounter and produce another superb knock depending upon the situation.
