Asia Cup 2023 Super 4: India vs SL – 3 Players Who Could Be The Leading Wicket Takers

Team India will face Sri Lanka in their 2nd Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023 to be played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 12th September 2023. It promises to be an exciting encounter as Men in Blue registered a thumping 228-run victory over Pakistan yesterday.

Sri Lankan bowling has been impressive so far getting the opponent team all out. It will be a huge challenge for the hosts as they will be pitted against Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Co who posted a massive total of 356 for 2 in 50 overs.

Both teams have decent bowling lineups making an interesting contest. India played their first completed match and produced a dominating performance against Pakistan skittling them out cheaply for 128.

Here we look at the 3 Probable Leading wicket-takers:

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj looked threatening with the new ball going past the outside edge of the bat. He struggled initially before troubled Imam UL Haq and Fakhar Zaman. It was a good bowling effort by Siraj who did not pick any wickets.

He would be eager to showcase his bowling skills against Sri Lanka by picking early wickets with the new ball and keeping pressure on the opponents with disciplined lines. He bowled only 5 overs giving away only 23 runs.

Siraj has a decent record against Sri Lanka in ODI cricket. He would be looking to do the early damage and put enough pressure on the openers including Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karaunate.

  1. Matheesha Pathirana

Matheesha Pathirana has been a great find for Sri Lanka in this tournament so far. He bowls well in his initial spells and keeps the pressure on the batters with his disciplined bowling.

Pathirana bowled a superb yorker to dismiss Nasum Ahmed against Bangladesh helping Sri Lanka register 21 runs victory. Sri Lanka would be hoping that Pathirana picks up wickets against a strong Indian batting lineup.

With his ability to bowl yorkers in the death overs, Pathirana would be an asset for Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka and help them restrict the Indian batting lineup that looks strong with the likes of Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul in form.

  1. Kuldeep Yadav

The left arm chinamen Kuldeep Yadav showed his brilliant skills with 5 wicket haul against Pakistan played at the same venue yesterday. He started the slide as he dismissed Fakhar Zaman with a beauty that shattered the stumps.

He then troubled every Pakistani batter as they were not able to pick the variations. Kuldeep then dismissed Salman Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shahbad Khan, and Faheem ending the innings as Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf did not come to bat.

Kuldeep Yadav finished with figures of 5 for 25 in 8 overs. He would be looking to continue his impressive form during today’s match also providing wickets in the middle overs.
