Asia Cup 2023: [WATCH] Young Sri Lankan Sensation Takes Down Kohli, Rohit, Rahul, Gill

In the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash between India and Sri Lanka, the emerging Sri Lankan talent, Dunith Wellalage, delivered a mesmerizing bowling performance that left the Indian cricket team’s top order in a state of turmoil.

At just 20 years of age, Wellalage showcased his remarkable skill by claiming the prized wickets of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.

Wellalage, previously recognized as the leading wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the U-19 World Cup 2022, wasted no time making his mark in this high-stakes encounter. In his very first over, he outwitted Shubman Gill, whose inability to judge the length of a straight delivery resulted in his stumps being shattered.

What makes Wellalage particularly challenging for batsmen is his adept use of pace variations, a trait that perplexed even the legendary Virat Kohli. Kohli found himself in an unfortunate predicament as the ball, having slowed down upon pitching, deceived him into playing his shot prematurely. Consequently, Dasun Shanaka comfortably pouched the catch.

Watch the dismissals here:

Rohit Sharma, displaying commendable form, had notched his 51st half-century off just 44 balls. However, Wellalage had more tricks up his sleeve. A delivery that kept lower than anticipated breached Rohit’s defenses, crashing into his leg stump and ending his impressive innings.

The clash began with India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, winning the toss and opting to bat. In a strategic change, India introduced spin all-rounder Axar Patel in place of pacer Shardul Thakur, emphasizing their adaptability in response to the challenges posed by Wellalage’s exceptional bowling display.

This eventful encounter highlighted the emergence of Dunith Wellalage as a promising talent, and it left fans eagerly anticipating future battles in the world of cricket.
