BBL 2023-24: David Warner To Arrive At the BBL Sydney Derby In A Helicopter At The SCG

David Warner plans a grand comeback to the Big Bash League (BBL) by arriving at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in a helicopter shortly before the Sydney Thunder’s match against the Sixers on Friday, January 12.

The Sydney Thunder player will leave his brother’s wedding early in the afternoon in Hunter Valley to attend the Sydney derby. As per local reports, he’ll depart from the ceremony to Cessnock Airport and then take a 45-minute helicopter ride to reach the SCG.

Sean Abbott playfully commented that David Warner was a bit “Hollywood” ahead of their upcoming derby match.

“He is a bit Hollywood, isn’t he, that’s very Davey. I got the Lime bike in today and I’ll be doing the same tomorrow night and riding out the gate as Davey lands,” the Sixers pacer said before the match.

“I’m glad they are making it happen because think everyone in the country who is a fan of cricket wants to see David Warner in the BBL and I’m really looking forward to coming up against him. One of the best players in the world and has been for a long time,” he added.

Originally, David Warner planned to land at Allianz Stadium nearby. However, when the SCG became an option, he thought he could get there before the broadcast setup started.

“He’s going through a lot of effort” – Gurinder Sandhu views on David Warner

Gurinder Sandhu, Warner’s teammate in the Thunder, expressed that having the experienced batter around would be “awesome.” Following the Sydney derby, Warner is expected to participate in three additional matches for the team.

“He’s going through a lot of effort to come and play for us,” Thunder quick Gurinder Sandhu said. “We love having him here. Last year he was awesome for us, maybe didn’t score as many runs as he would have liked but around the group and passing on knowledge was awesome to have him around. He’s one of the better team men. All the fans get to enjoy him playing cricket.”

The Thunder’s chances of reaching the playoffs are extremely low. However, if the Sixers, currently in third place, secure a victory, it would significantly boost their chances of securing a playoff spot.
