BCB To Reconsider Shakib Al Hasan’s NOC For IPL 2021

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib AL Hasan was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 player auction, However, the availability of the Bangla Tigers superstar is hanging by the thread. He earlier decided to skip the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka to play in the IPL. However, this decision by Shakib was not taken in good light by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Now it is rethinking their consideration over allowing Shakib to play in the upcoming IPL season. 

While clearing his stance over participating in the IPL, the Bangladesh all-rounder said that he wanted to play in the tournament to improve his skills keeping in mind the World T20 later this year to be played in India. He further said that he wants to play the tournament to take the necessary experience from the big event later on.

“During the IPL season, I wanted time so that I can prepare myself better. The ground where I will play IPL now will be the ground where I will play the World Cup match after four months. The players with whom I will play the IPL will be the players against whom I will play in the World Cup,” Shakib added.

He further said that his words were misinterpreted by BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan, who said that Shakib does not want to play Test cricket anymore. 

“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the BCB president Nazmul Hassan has called a meeting following accusations made by Shakib that his words were misinterpreted by the BCB Chairman. The announcement came within 24 hours of Shakib Al Hasqn saying that Akram did not read his letter and was providing misleading information about the same.

“I heard that he said that I didn’t read his letter. Perhaps I misunderstood his letter. He wants to play Tests, from what he has said. In the next couple of days we will discuss about his NOC. If he has interest, he will play Tests in Sri Lanka,” Akram said. 

Meanwhile, as per reports in Cricbuzz, the board will sit for a meeting to discuss Shakib’s NOC and a decision will be taken in the next meeting in the coming week.
