The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering to field two teams simultaneously once cricket resumes after the coronavirus pandemic. Incidentally, the board has incurred massive losses with many series and the high-profile Indian Premier League cancelled or postponed.

As a result, the Sourav Ganguly-led panel might consider playing too many matches to recover some of the losses. Previously, England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan was ready to do so as he felt the Test and ODI-T20I squads could play at a time to cover the lost time due to the pandemic.

And now, BCCI is also pondering to separate their red-ball and white-ball squads to play more than one international game in a day. A BCCI official, who chose not to disclose his name, stated the board might have to go that route in the future if the need arises.

“None of us know when sport, especially international cricket will resume. But if we have to safeguard all our stakeholders – from sponsors to spectators – one of the options is to select two different squads and play a Test series and a T20I series simultaneously,” he said to Sportstar.

Meanwhile, if such situation arises, then the fans will have the privilege of watching a Test match in the day and then switch to T20I mode in the evening. As per reports, BCCI have already started working on these aspects to keep things ready with two squads in need.

Previously, Australia had played two simultaneously series together in 2007. In 2017, they had played a Test match in Pune, a day after hosting Sri Lanka for a T20I at the Adelaide Oval. India will become the second team to achieve this feat if such a scenario comes.
