“Beating Pakistan Enough Without Winning World Cup?” – Rohit Sharma’s Bold Remark On 2024 Triumph

Star Indian batter Rohit Sharma made a significant remark regarding India’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Champions Wali Feeling Phir Se’, he reflected on the team’s memorable campaign. While discussing the thrilling win against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma shared:

“Kaafi grand stadium lag raha tha. (The stadium looked pretty grand). We completely took the pitch out of the equation. We wanted them to chase. Mere paas Bumrah ke saath saath Arshdeep bhi hai (Along with Bumrah I had Arshdeep as well),” he said.

India posted a modest total of 119 while batting first, with Rishabh Pant leading the effort with a 42 off 31 balls. Despite the low score, India staged a remarkable comeback, limiting Pakistan to 113/7 and securing a thrilling six-run win. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler, claiming three crucial wickets.

However, India’s journey didn’t end with the victory over Pakistan. They went on to defeat South Africa in a nail-biting final to clinch the title. Rohit Sharma emphasized that just beating Pakistan wouldn’t have been satisfying if they hadn’t gone on to win the World Cup.

“Agar Pakistan ko hara diya aur World Cup nahin jeeta, toh chalega? Nahi chalega (If we beat Pakistan and do not win the World Cup, will it be okay? It’s not okay),” Rohit said.

Rohit Sharma Guides India to First World Cup Title in 17 Years

India had clinched the inaugural T20 World Cup title in 2007, but despite several attempts, they couldn’t secure another T20 World Cup win until the 2024 edition. With a memorable victory over South Africa in the final, India finally lifted the trophy again after a 17-year gap.

Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the triumph not only brought the coveted title home but also ended India’s long ICC trophy drought, their first major title since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Following the historic win, Rohit announced his retirement from T20 internationals.

The veteran batter concluded his T20I career with 159 appearances, amassing 4,231 runs, including five centuries and 32 fifties.
