Team India captain Rohit Sharma looked back on a funny moment during the toss of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan in New York. The 38-year-old revealed that the intense atmosphere inside the stadium, combined with Ravi Shastri’s energetic hosting, led him to completely forget that the coin was in his own pocket.
When asked to toss the coin, Rohit instinctively looked toward the match referee, expecting him to provide it. It was then that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, standing next to him, pointed out that Rohit had the coin himself. The Indian opener could only smile awkwardly in response.
Speaking to Star Sports a year after India’s World Cup triumph, Rohit revisited the amusing incident and shared the backstory.
“I’ll tell you what is happening. Look at him. In the blue, it’s Rohit Sharma ready to punch. In the green, it’s ready to counterpunch. Yeh sab cheez wahan pe ho raha hai, toh obviously it’s fun. In the middle of everything, Ravi Shastri’s energy, and everything, I forgot coin mere paas hee hai.”

Rohit Sharma Ends T20 World Cup 2024 As Tournament’s Second Top Scorer
Rohit Sharma played a key role with the bat throughout the tournament, scoring a total of 257 runs across eight innings at an average of 36.71, with a top score of 92 against Australia. Despite a rare failure in the final against South Africa, India managed to clinch a thrilling seven-run win to secure their second T20 World Cup title.
The 2024 edition was also symbolic, as Rohit, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, announced his retirement from T20Is after the final, bringing a glorious chapter of Indian cricket to a close.
