Team India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on Ishan Kishan, who smacked a blistering double hundred in the third ODI against Bangladesh on Saturday, December 10.
Coming into the playing XI as Rohit Sharma‘s replacement, Ishan made full use of the opportunity smacking a double century. He also became the fastest-ever to reach the landmark, breaking West Indies’ Chris Gayle’s record.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik was all praise of Ishan Kishan and said that it was a special effort from the southpaw on how he paced his innings. He said:
“It was beautiful to watch the way Ishan paced his innings after first five overs. The kind of shots he played, he took on bowlers consistently. The beauty about 200 was the strike rate; at 160, scoring a double hundred is special effort.
“He batted beautifully, the last 100 coming off 41 balls says a lot. That’s the skill, that’s why he has been picked by Mumbai Indians at such a high price.”
“He is somebody who is going to deliver” – Dinesh Karthik on Ishan Kishan
With the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place at home next year, India are likely to make a few changes in their playing XI. Ishan Kishan has thrown his hat in the ring and Dinesh Karthik feels he leave many behind in the pecking order.
“He’s somebody who is going to deliver. This, in many ways, puts the cat among the pigeons when it comes to the openers,” Dinesh Karthik concluded.
India will next be seen in action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on Wednesday, December 14.
