Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to replace Rohit Sharma in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from December 14. The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram will host the first clash before the caravan shifts to Dhaka for the final game of the tour.

Rohit suffered an untimely injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on December 7. He suffered a thumb dislocation and left the field. However, he came out to bat trying to save the series for his side but it went in vain.

The veteran batter looked in sheer discomfort while batting and is most likely to miss the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been in superb form with the bat, is likely to replace the Indian skipper.

“Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood, he will join the squad in Chattogram after finishing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI source said to PTI.

Easwaran scored 141 in the first A Test and hammered 157 in the second unofficial Test against Bangladesh A. He has been in the sidelines for quite some time now, scoring tons of runs in the domestic circuit.

However, Abhimanyu Easwaran might have to wait for some time to make his India debut.  India are likely to open with stand-in skipper KL Rahul and young batting prodigy Shubman Gill, while Easwaran will be the third opener in the squad.

Mukesh Kumar or Umran Malik likely to replace Mohammed Shami for Bangladesh Tests

According to the aforementioned source, Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar, who has consistently performed for India A, or Umran Malik, could replace an injured Mohammed Shami for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Ravindra Jadeja, who hasn’t played a single game since his knee surgery, will directly come into the playing XI. Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur are the other pace options in the squad.
