The Jammu and Kashmir express, Umran Malik replaced Kuldeep Sen in the second One-day international match against Bangladesh played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on December 7, 2022.

Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and decided to bat first. Mohammed Siraj bowled beautifully grabbing two early wickets of Anamul Haque and then Liton Das with beauties.

Umran Malik delivered bouncers at Shakib Al Hasan. He then shattered the stumps of Najimul Hasan Shanto around the wicket leaving Bangladesh in trouble.

Malik created enough with the pace not allowing the Bangladeshi batters to settle. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah showed intent in putting pressure on Indian bowlers. He was not given any more overs by stand-in captain KL Rahul as both Bangladeshi batters kept milking runs.

Umran picked up his second wicket, dismissing Mahmudullah with a stunning one-handed catch by KL Rahul. Mahmudullah and Mehidy added 148 runs partnership for the seventh wicket.

Nasum Ahmed and Mehidy smashed the Indian bowlers as they put on unbeaten 54 runs for the eighth wicket. Bangladesh recovered from 69 for 6 to 271 as Mehidy Hasan Miraz posted his maiden Test century. Umran Malik went for 58 runs in his 10 overs taking 2 wickets.

India suffer series defeat against Bangladesh

The Indian batting struggled badly with Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Washington Sundar, and KL Rahul falling cheaply. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel put up an excellent partnership to help them recover. Both Indian batters kept the momentum going with boundaries and taking singles.

Mehidy got rid of Shreyas caught by Afif Hossain at the boundary. Shreyas and Axar Patel added 107 runs for the fifth wicket. The Indian team then kept losing wickets at regular intervals before Rohit Sharma came to bat at number 9.

He almost took India across the line as he made an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. It was a courageous effort as Men in Blue lost the match by 5 runs and lost the series with one game to spare.
