India lost to Bangladesh in an ODI after seven years. The hosts Bangladesh defeated the visitors by a narrow margin of one wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday, December 4.

Big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul returned to the team after their break. Apart from Rahul, no one seemed to have gotten going. He scored 73 runs holding one end of the innings while watching wickets fall on the other. His knock compromised five fours and four sixes.

KL Rahul came at 5 to bat and said that this was the role assigned to him. He also threw light on wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s absence of the side.

“We have not played many ODIs in the past 6-7 months but if you look from 2020-’21, I have kept wickets and batted at four. I have been assigned this role by the team. I don’t exactly know the reason for (Rishabh) Pant’s release. The medical team will be able to tell why Pant was released,” said KL Rahul after the match.

“You can expect the unexpected in this game” – KL Rahul

KL Rahul also spoke about how the hosts fought well to keep themselves alive in the game. The Karnataka-born cricketer also hailed Mehidya Hasan Miraz, labelling his innings as the game-changer.

“You can expect the unexpected in this game. Such games keep happening, that’s cricket. The game is never won till the last ball. Mehidy’s innings and the way they fought till the end made the difference. One or two dropped chances hurt us too,” he added.

“But yeah, they played well. Bangladesh fought really hard today. We made some mistakes which we need to learn from and come back strongly. He (Mehidy) took risks and found the boundary. Bangladesh are playing at home and they are good here. They pose a tough challenge,” concluded Rahul.
