Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) big-money signing from the IPL 2026 auction, Prashant Veer, who was snapped up for ₹14.20 crore, has picked up a Grade 2 shoulder injury while representing Uttar Pradesh in the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy. The promising all-rounder reportedly fell awkwardly on his shoulder, forcing him to leave the field mid-match.
As per an ESPN Cricinfo report, the injury occurred during Uttar Pradesh’s group-stage encounter against Jharkhand when Veer dived at mid-off in an attempt to stop a shot. While the athletic effort succeeded in preventing runs, it resulted in an unfortunate injury.
Medical staff provided immediate on-field treatment using pain-relief sprays, but Veer was later taken off for further scans. He eventually returned with his arm in a sling, and early assessments suggest he is unlikely to take any further part in the match.
The injury is expected to require around three weeks of recovery, significantly limiting Veer’s rehabilitation time ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign. The 19th season of the Indian Premier League is slated to commence soon after the 2026 T20 World Cup, though the official tournament schedule has yet to be confirmed.
Prashant Veer Had An Impressive White-Ball Campaign For Uttar Pradesh After CSK Signing
The young all-rounder became one of the highlights of the 2026 IPL Auction in Abu Dhabi, emerging as the most expensive uncapped player. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged out Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a fierce bidding contest to secure his services, signaling a transition away from veteran spin all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Following his IPL signing, Prashant Veer featured for Uttar Pradesh in the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Forming a potent spin attack alongside Vipraj Nigam and Zeeshan Ansari, he claimed 10 wickets in eight matches at an average of 36.90 and an economy rate of 5.19, taking at least one wicket in every match as his team advanced to the quarter-finals.
Veer also contributed with the bat, including a quick 37 off 18 balls against Jammu & Kashmir. He maintained a strike rate of 120.90 and remained not out in four of the matches during the tournament.
