Team India defeated England to lift the U19 Women’s World Cup on Sunday, January 29 at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. They scripted history and became the U19 champions in the tournament’s inaugural edition. The Shafali Verma-led team chased down 69 runs in around fourteen overs, to win the match by seven wickets.
Bowling first, the Indian bowlers pulled off a brilliant performance. They struck an early blow dismissing Liberty Heap in the first over. England could not recover after the dismissal and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra took two wickets each as England was bowled out for 68 runs.
In response, Shafali Verma got the team off to a good start, hitting a boundary and a six, before getting dismissed. Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha scored 24 runs each, as India chased down the target comfortably. The duo along with a great performance from the bowlers powered India to the championship win in the first-ever U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
