Former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin has congratulated the newly appointed ODI skipper Rohit Sharma. The BCCI announced him as the new ODI skipper of the side while naming the Indian squad for the Test series against South Africa. The ODI series against South Africa will be his first assignment as a full-time skipper of the side.
Taking to Twitter Mohammed Azharuddin wrote a congratulatory message for Rohit Sharma.” Rohit Sharma the new ODI and T20 captain of India has big shoes to fill after Virat Kohli. And he has true potential to lead the pack as he promised. Congratulations to the new skipper” he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of debate and discussion about the BCCI sacking Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper of the side. While BCCI said that they do not want two white-ball captains at the same time, there are predictions that Kohli’s inability to win IPL ICC titles during his captaincy might have prompted the board to look for a change.

Reacting to the same, Sourav Ganguly stated that they wanted Virat Kohli to continue as the T20I captain; however, he refused. The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as ODI captain was just an aftermath of the decision as the board wanted a uniform leader in the white-ball format.
“It’s a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. And the selectors then did not feel it right to have two different captains for two white-ball formats,” as quoted by ANI.

He is also fourth in the list of most ODI wins by an Indian captain. He also won 65 of the 95 games he led the Indian team maintaining a win percentage of over 70 percent which is the best among all the captains who have led India in the past.
