Veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu has announced that he will retire from Indian Premier League (IPL) after this season. The cricketer took to Twitter to share the news with the fans.

Rayudu was roped in Mumbai Indians (MI), who showed trust in his abilities. The low-profile batter justified his selection, making consistent contributions with the bat wherever his team made his bat. He even took the wicketkeeping gloves to lend more balance and remain a vital cog in the side.

Ambati Rayudu announced himself as a cool finisher when he swung a six, with Mumbai needing four off the last ball against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011. As the saying goes, every good things comes to an end, so is Rayudu’s journey.

“I am happy to announce that this will be my last ipl. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and Csk for the wonderful journey,” Rayudu wrote on Twitter.

However, moments later, Ambati Rayudu deleted the tweet from his official handle.

Ambati Rayudu’s record in IPL

Ambati Rayudu has been part of 187 IPL matches, scoring 4187 runs at an average of almost 30, including 22 half-centuries and one hundred. The 37-year-old batter’s breakthrough season came in 2018 when CSK scripted history, winning the title after returning to the league on the back of a two-year ban.

Rayudu scored 602 runs in 16 appearances, scoring at an average of 43 and a strike rate of just under 150. He also made telling contributions last season, chipping in with 257 runs, which included a couple of match-winning knocks.

In the ongoing 15th edition of the IPL, Ambati Rayudu has scored 271 runs in 12 outings at a strike rate of over 124 and an average of 27.10. While CSK are out of the playoff race, their veteran custodian will hope to end his IPL career on a high note, winning the remaining two games for the team.
