Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are undoubtedly two of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the rivalry they share always makes a noise whenever the two meet. Veritably the ‘El Clasico’ of the IPL as most of the fans say, both teams do not fail to put on a worthy show, every time.
Despite this, both the IPL victors are having one of the toughest runs in the history of the tournament. It is not new that MI, the five-time champions, with their incredibly inconsistent performance, are out of the tournament virtually. While CSK, too, with this loss against MI is out from the playoffs race. Both teams have had a forgettable season, so far.
In IPL 2022, MI and CSK faced each other twice. In the first clash CSK, with skipper MS Dhoni’s supremacy beat MI by three wickets. But yesterday (Thursday, May 12), at Wankhede Stadium, the MI’s home ground, MI bowled CSK out for merely 97 runs. Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah led MI bowling attack didn’t leave a way to escape for CSK batters. Chasing the easier target of 98, Mumbai batters still seemed to be struggling; but Tilak Verma’s temperament aided the side to win the game.
CSK’s 97 all-out is obviously the talk of the town for a while and former India cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, are not exceptions. Yuvraj shared a short video of himself and Raina, conversing about the IPL El Clasico, via his Instagram story.
In the video, Yuvraj sarcastically asked Raina about his team’s performance saying, “Raina, aapki team aaj 97 pe all out ho gayi hai. Kya kehna chahenge aap?” (Your team got bowled out for 97 tonight. What do you have to say?) In reply, Raina came up with a savage one: “Main nahi thha uss match mein” (I wasn’t part of the match).
