Destructive West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee injury. Sunil Ambris has now been named as his replacement and is expected to join the squad ahead of India”s clash on Thursday. This injury means that West Indies who are already struggling in this tournament will now have a lot of issues ahead of next encounters.
Russell was available for only four games in the tournament and he played a crucial role in the victory against Pakistan. His bowling skills were highly spoken during the game and experts predicted that he might be the one to watch out for in this tournament. However, the side wasn”t fortunate enough in the next games and tasted successive defeats.
Andre Russell”s form was viewed as one of the unique selling proposition for this West Indies side in this tournament as he ripped apart the opponents in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. This injury is a serious dent to the side and they will be looking forward to better performances from their top order in coming games.
Sunil Ambris has only played 6 ODIs for the West Indies till now but his form of late has been impeccable. He registered his highest score of 148 in the ODIs in the recently concluded tri-series between Ireland, Bangladesh and West Indies.
